i'm 46 w. low iron, low ferritin, low saturation. (hgb ok) due to heavy periods from fibroids. levels are increasing by taking 150mg per day elemental iron. can i continue this amt for years to keep iron stable until menopause or can it be damaging?

: Taking iron to make up for the lost element in menstruation is okay and will not do harm. Take multivitamins to facilitate blood formation. However, you may wish to consult  gynecologist as there may be a treatment for the excessive blood loss.

i'll be 49 this year. i have 3 fibroids. at my age should i just live with my heavy periods and pain, being do close to menopause ? will it go away ?

Accepted Answer

Depends: How old was your mom when she went through menopause? That will likely be your age so if not till 56 you may want to reconsider.  If symptoms areild it's agood plan since >80% will shrink.  Some will hurt when they shrink/die and will require surgery.

heavy periods after hyperscopic mynoctectomy  on aug 7th. dr removed 4 fibroids. i had heavy bleeding and anemia.  well i had 2 periods since surgery . should i worry?

Not necessairly: If your periods are regular, that's good. If he got out all the fibroids and you had heavy periods before, you may also have a hormonal problem. You didn't say your age, but you may need oral contraceptives/Nuvaring to help with bleeding or, if a candidate, perhaps an ablation.

is it normal to have amenorrhea when you have pcos and fibroids? doc said the pcos was "protecting" me from the heavy periods caused by fibroids.

Yes: Amenorrhea due to pcos is common due to no ovulation but it is not a good thing or protection because eventually you will have a very heavy period after couple of months
Evaluation by a doctor is important for follow up

if i want all my fibroids removed and get evaluated for having heavy periods with clots bigger than a quarter will i become pregnant sooner?

Accepted Answer

Probably not: You should see your doctor about the heavy periods and fibroids. By and large fibroids cause fertility issues when they push into the cavity of the uterus. While in some cases surgical removal of the fibroids may help your fertility, usually the doctor will make you wait a minimum of 3 months (often longer) before being permitted to try to get pregnant. This will not get you pregnant sooner.

GYN exam: to include a pelvic exam, hormone levels and a pelvic ultrasound are necessary to make a diagnosis.

Unlikely to help: Your doctor can prescribe you birth control pills that can limit your period to once a year and that would obviate the bleeding and risk of anemia.  Take oral iron and multivitamins to prevent anemia.

i am 30years old, i was diagnosed with endometrial cyst and fibroids 3 years ago. i have heavy periods but recently i started having a lot of brown light discharges after my period until the next period. i need an advise?

: Difficult to advise without a full history. If you are concerned you should contact your physician

my recent studies shows a slightly heterogeneous myometrium without discrete fibroids, unremarkable appearance to the endometrium. i have constant dull pelvic pain, heaviness, & heavy periods that last 14 days. what could this be?

: Heterogenous myometrium with thickening of the uterine wall could be adenomyosis. this would explain your dull pelvic pain, heaviness and heavy periods. Follow up with your Gyn Dr to determine next steps which could include hormones.

Absolutely: Fibroids and ovarian cysts can both cause heavy periods and sexual activity is not an issue in their presence.
