Depends: Hand swelling can be caused by several conditions including injuries, arthritis, circulatory problems, tendonitis and other inflammatory conditions. Carpal tunnel: Your symptoms may suggest a carpal tunnel syndrome which is due to a median nerve compression at the wrist. An exam can usually make the diagnosis. An electromyogram can be helpful as well. See a rheumatologist, orthopedist or hand surgeon.

Can be: Some swelling after an injury or surgery is common. It is however important to control the swelling which will help with movement of the fingers. Elevation icing and the motion can be used. If this does not help therapists can sometimes be needed to help with the swelling.

Swollen finger: Not sure how it happened or why just that finger. 
Could be some type of repetitive motion issue.
Please seek out your personal physician for an evaluation. Could include xrays, nsaids, referral to physical therapy.

Arthritis : as far as I know, glucosamine is the only natural thing that would help arthritis (scientifically proven).  But your symptom may not be a plain arthritis.  It can be rheumatoid arthritis or other connective tissue disease.   I would go see your doctor.  Take care.

Many causes : At your age likely possibilities are gout, pseudo gout, other crystal arthropatjies.  There are also many other forms if arthritis such as reactive arthritis. Depending on the appearance this could also be caused by an infection, a nerve you pinched while sleeping, spot a circulation problem.  If it worsens during the day or is red and swollen you should see a doctor for an evaluation.

More info?: This could be gout, though there would usually be redness.  Rheumatoid arthritis comes to mind but usually no sudden onset and generally more joints that one small finger joint.  It would be good to know if there's been any recent trauma, spider bite, stick with a thorn?  Does finger ever get stuck when bent?
