Many causes : At your age likely possibilities are gout, pseudo gout, other crystal arthropatjies. There are also many other forms if arthritis such as reactive arthritis. Depending on the appearance this could also be caused by an infection, a nerve you pinched while sleeping, spot a circulation problem. If it worsens during the day or is red and swollen you should see a doctor for an evaluation.
