Pica: You likely have pica, due to iron deficient anemia. OCD is commonly described in pica as well. Best would be to see your doc for an exam with tests to substantiate the diagnosis and start treatment.

Several Possibilitie: Alcohol cause chemical brain imbalance and is a depressant.  Certain medications and recreational drugs (marijuana) and depression can result in lack of motivation.  Depression is a chemical imbalance in the brain.  Hormones can certainly do it, as well. Get a check up with pcp and ask for referral for a psychological evaluation.  That is the best way to get answers of this type. Good luck.

Rather than using the substance sporadically, now the person pursues the substance and continues using it despite overt harm to his/her own life, relationships, and career.  Tolerance has developed, and the person needs more for same effect.
