A member asked:

Is there usually a psychological, mental or societal reason behind laziness and lack of motivation to work? or is laziness for just no reason at all

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Which is it?: There is a difference between laziness and lack of motivation. Lack of motivation can be due to the wrong job or an environment where one is not encouraged or challenged enough and if the underlying factors are addressed can lead to increased motivation. Laziness will not improve even in the most ideal circumstances if the individual chooses to be lazy.
