Surgery is best: Your jaw stopped growing when you were 17.  Not much of stimulating at 32, even with a functional appliance.  If your overbite is from an under developed lower jaw your choices are surgery or live with your overbite.  Pulling upper teeth and moving your front teeth back to meet the underdeveloped lower is not a good option. Will leave your whole lower face in a bad position.

Orthodontist eval: The expert to consult with should be an orthodontist.  They use pictures and X-rays to evaluate the jaw bones and the bite.  By viewing these diagnostic tools, they can advise and give an opinion of what treatment would be most beneficial.

: Start with a general dentist assessment to review options, including orthodontics based on actual anatomy. You may not need corrective jaw surgery that may still be at least partially covered for medical reasons, if that is the case.

It depends: Depending on the degree of protrusion, the recovery can be very simple with just a few days of rest and soreness or it can be very complicated, requiring braces and jaw rest for several weeks.  Your surgeon should be able to tell you what to expect, tailored to your specific case and how s/he performs the surgery.  Don't be afraid to ask.

Jaw surgery: The post-surgery orthodontic period can vary depending on the type of surgery, position of the jaws and stability during healing.  This time is usually between 8-12 months, but in more complex cases can be longer.
