Good: Heat is good for any muscle, ligament, cartilage pain, ice good for acute pain and nerve pain.

knee pain. told it was torn meniscus. "let it heal" it hasn't. swollen,  pain worse. no ins till april 1st. tried ice and heat. lots of motrin. any suggestions. i'm trying to avoid the er till ins kicks in but it's becoming intolerable.

Good sign: Although the tear of your medial meniscus may not truly "heal" itself, many meniscal injuries can become less painful with time.  If your knee if feeling better, give it further time to heal- ongoing or recurring pain would be an indication that you may need to consider an arthroscopic surgery.

None: There are no braces that can substitute for the functions of an acl. Bracing technology has advanced greatly, but most of the rotation stability needed is not possible with external braces. Most braces provide stability in side to side instability helping mcls and lcl (limited). Pcls are also partially protected with bracing. Meniscus tears are also not protected.

Probably not: It is very common for someone your age to have a degenerative meniscus tear. There's a good chance you have arthritis as well. An occasional cortisone injection (max. 3/year) can relieve pain and inflammation. There are other injection options. I would only recommend a knee scope (arthroscopy) if you have persistent and significant swelling or if the meniscus tear is "locking" the joint.

Yes: I don&#x27;t know how old your daughter is or how athletic she is. This is an unusual injury hit dashboard, fell hard on knee ..? Non operative tx. for PCL is probably indicated. If she really has a meniscus tear then have it scoped and fixed. Quad strengthening and bracing should be helpful until she&#x27;s thru growth. She may never need it reconstructed if it&#x27;s truly isolated.I perform arthroscopic PCL r

3 weeks post full acl/mcl tears with meniscus damage as well. how long should i wait before surgery? swelling has subsided lots and im very strict with doing my physio as well as extra leg work. how long should this keep me in bad pain post-surgery?

: You should see an orthopedic surgeon sooner than later to get the ball rolling. With both ACL and MCL tears, your knee is left unstable and will result in significant joint destruction without the stability from excessive unintended mobility. Initially the swelling would have caused stability that will quickly be lost with the resolution of the swelling.

these are painful: Obviously you bear weight across your knee and it bends with every step do either of these conditions are going to be painful. Certainly they call for different treatments which your surgeon will explain to you.
