Good sign: Although the tear of your medial meniscus may not truly "heal" itself, many meniscal injuries can become less painful with time. If your knee if feeling better, give it further time to heal- ongoing or recurring pain would be an indication that you may need to consider an arthroscopic surgery.

Yes: Symptoms related to a meniscal tear can improve with time depending on the type tear that is present. A linear tear as you have described is just such a tear. You may be able to treat this conservatively and never require surgery. A "bucket handle" tear on the other hand typically does not get better with time. None will actually "heal" with time.
