SFI: Sporadic fatal insomnia is a very rare, transmissible neurodegenerative disease characterized by the accumulation of a misfolded protein (the prion protein) in the brain.  Symptoms include  disrupted sleep, autonomic dysfunction, and motor abnormalities including myoclonus, ataxia, dysarthria, dysphagia, and pyramidal signs like clonus on exam.  There may be peculiar behaviors too.

Stress?: I am wondering if, in addition to physical illness, that you might also be experiencing environmental or emotional stressors. Do you find yourself battling racing thoughts that interfere with sleep? If so have your doctor evaluate you for stress, and refer you to a reputable psychotherapist to help you better deal with that stress.

1. Your current symptoms- depression, insomnia and headaches that need to be addressed timely in order for you to remain functional
2. Lack of sleep will make you prone to a seizure as it will decrease significantly your seizure threshold.

Yes, : Yes, that is exactly right, those problems could be a sign of menopause.  The average age of menopause for all women is 53-54.  Estrogen and other hormone levels start changing prior to the actual onset of menopause.  If your symptoms worsen however are are affecting your lifestyle, then please consult with your physician, as many of the more severe symptoms of menopause can be successfully treated.  In addition, women after 50 should be seen for a general check up to assess for other health conditions, get their blood pressure checked, thyroid checked, and other "maintenance" health care needs.
