Typically an infection from an ingrown toenail requires your foot doctor to cut the ingrown toenail out and allow for the infection to drain. You will need to soak your foot or use a special antibiotic ointment afterwards and possibly be on oral antibiotics to clear the infection. Don't wait too long to be seen!

got a staph infection in toe from pedicure in march/april of 2021. cleared it with keflex. i have seen a podiatrist on and off for the last 1-2 years and my toenail is still not grown back fully. there is a gap btwn cuticle and nail. is this normal?

: It is best to discuss with your podiatrist that has a better picture of what happened. Scar formation may change things to new normal. The important thing is that the infection cleared and you now know to be more cautious or take precaution about where and how your pedicure is done. Toe nails grow slower the finger nails.

Not enough info: It would be unusual for a systemic Staph infection just from casual contact.   I would consider other options, include reactive arthritis, crystalline arthritis (gout/pseudogout).  It doesn't seem like the information given is going to help us pinpoint why you have this.  Any recent new sexual partner or risk for gonorrhea? Where was trip?  Lumbago with sciatica can lead to pain in those areas.

Well done...: Easy on the peroxide. It may kill the bacteria but it also gives your skin a hard time too. Try using warm water. either with or without soap. I think you would know if it was infected. Look for redness, swelling, pain and possibly drainage. Just because you cut the corner out does not necessarily mean you're home free. If infection signs begin, have it corrected by a specialist.

i have had an ingrown toenail for the longest time, but i have had an infection in it for about 4 months. i get a throbbing pain and cannot walk on it. what should i do?

Get it treated: See a podiatrist or surgeon. You need antibiotics and removal of the ingrown nail from the infected area.
This will not get better without appropriate treatment.
