right knee injury from 2001 slip & fall. joint pain in knee, when sitting long periods of time. inflammation in ankles/foot, red rash. related or not?

Not: A rash in 2012 is not related to an injury back in 2001. Left ankle inflammation in 2012 from a right knee injury in 2001 not......Your right knee pain after long periods of sitting certainly could be. It would be helpful if we knew the prior diagnosis of the knee injury. Did that njury ever resolve or has their been pain since then would also help.

i've had many leg tests, right lower leg has narrowing, my toes turn ,red,purple,then black, my right leg below the knee swells twice the size of the left leg and is hot, its painful to walk and sit, no one will help me!! what should i do?

Accepted Answer

: This sounds like a primary vascular problem and the swellilng suggests some sort of venous blockage. What type of leg test did you have and what were the results? You might also have some element of arterial disease though that seems unlikely in a person your age unless you have a history of diabetes or premature atherosclerosis. A vascular surgeon would be the most appropriate specialist to see.

Artery Disease Pain: Assuming you had an arterial blockage and the procedure you had or are having is a balloon angioplasty, then you are correct , this would be one type of treatment for this painful problem especially if it was performed on the leg with the occlusion.  Other ways to treat this are medications, stent placements and a new technique extracting plaque within the artery. Exercise is always recommended.

See your doctor : It sounds like you may need an x-ray of your lower back, hip and knee. You may also need an MRI to see if you have a pinched nerve in your back. See your doctor for an evaluation and a discussion of different therapies.

Sciatica: There are multiple potential causes, among the more common is a sciatica, which is pain from an irritated nerve in the back.  I would not hesitate to be seen and treated for it.

recovered from back spasm but now my leg and toes tingle. chiro said not disk problem but a lot of inflammation. it's been 2 weeks now.

Back pain: Numbness and tingling in the leg and foot is caused by nerve irritation. An MRI of the lumbar spine and a nerve conduction test can determine the cause of the numbness and tingling. Neuropathic pain medicine such as Gabapentin can reduce the numbness and tingling.

swelling of one leg from knee to foot?  can it be a clot?

Yes-go to ER ASAP: Your description is very suspicious for a blood clot called a deep venous thrombosis (dvt).  You should go to the er asap for evaluation.

The clots can move or form in your lung(s) becoming what is called a pulmonary embolism, which can be fatal (can kill you).  Get it checked out now--this may be a potentially life threatening emergency.

i had foot surgery on the 18th of june and ever since then i have this painful spot in the back of my leg (one or two inches down from my knee) and its extremely painful to the touch. what could this be?

Pain: Recent surgery and then a painful spot of your calf would be suspicious for a DVT.  You should probably be evaluated.

what are the risks? 
i need to done one on both knees - mri showed that my knee cartilage is not smooth & that theres a tendon which is sharp headed and causing pain & inflammation)
discomfort walking down stairs

Knee arthroscopy: Risk from knee arthroscopy is 5% and serious risk from knee arthroscopy is less than 1%.
 Complications include the following:  swelling, stiffness, progression of cartilage damage, infection, blood clot.

i have a pulmonary embolism after foot surgery about five weeks ago - i am on blood thinner tablets but i have a hot spot on my leg (same one i had surgery) its about midway between my ankle and my knee could this be another blood clot - my hips are?

Accepted Answer

Unlikely a : "deep" blood clot since blood thinners , especially the newer ones, are quite effective in preventing seep vein thrombosis (clots) which then could travel to the lungs. Rather I  suspect acute superficial phlebitis. Inform your treating consultant ASAP  since bacterial issues may be an issue here. In the meantime..APPLY HOT packs and elevate the leg.
