Excessive bleeding?: Is the bleeding a new symptom? How deep was the cut?
In the wrist area the are lots of superficial veins and a few important arteries that could bleed impressively when cut. If you have not had a history of easy or frequent bruising or bleeding, or a family history of a bleeding disorder, then all the blood you saw is likely from a cut blood vessel. 
Check with your doctor to make sure all is well.

How badly?: Very dependent on where the injury is & how "bad" this is. Is there any numbness in the hand? Any weakness in finger motion? If the injury is "bad" then it must be evaluated by a doctor to be sure that there is no serious internal damage.

Clean cloth: And local pressure for ten to twenty minutes.
That will generally stop venous and even most arterial bleeding!

If spurting, go to emergency!
The major vessels are on the palm side.

Press on the wound: For a cut in the kitchen, the wound is usually not very dirty. However, there still are germs. Immediately after the cut, one can use the hand soap by the sink to briefly wash the forearm, wrist, and hand that is injured. Then grab a clean cloth towel and cover the wound. Press firmly through the clean towel, onto the wound, and don't let go until about 20 minutes later. The E.R. Doctor can check.

Maybe. Maybe not.: "Small cut" means different things to different people. The care needed depends on where the cut is, how long it is, how deep it is, how clean it is... presuming the patient is normal, healthy, and up to date on vaccinations. The details of the incident may be important, if there were any risks of contamination by unusual germs or chemicals. An online virtual consultation with a doctor may help.

If baby ok....: So if the baby's skin is intact, meaning no diaper rash, irritation, minor cuts or sores, then the baby is not going to be infected. Intact skin is excellent protection. However, if there is open skin, raw areas, cuts, etc, the potential exists, albeit a small risk. Face it, you can get HIV from a needle poke - that's a tiny exposure. If in doubt, someone else can change the diaper!

Anything is possible: 1st, you can't get HIV unless s/he has hiv. 2nd, you can't get HIV w/o fluid exposure eg mucous membrane or via skin cut. Very unlikely to get HIV from a few drops via minor paper cut ( http://goo.Gl/p6ixtb) but unfortunately, anything can happen. Best to check his/her HIV status. If negative, no worries. If positive, then check yours now & again in 6 months. In meantime, sex protected sex only.

i recently endured a fairly deep glass cut to my hand i have it bandaged to stop bleeding but what else can i do i don not think hospital is necessary?

I had this happen: If you keep it clean so it doesn't get infected and keep the edges of the would close together it will heal.  I put traumeel cream (http://traumeel.Us/) on my wound to promote healing and in about a week it was closed.  That was 15 years ago and I have no residual problems with the wound.
