Tartrate v Succinate: The blood pressure medication, metoprolol, comes in two forms, tartrate &amp; succinate, ie metoprolol tartrate (MT) &amp; metoprolol succinate (MS). MT is dosed twice daily - think T for twice, while MS is single daily dose - think S for single. Hope that helps! Oh and besides controlling blood pressure, metoprolol, as a member of beta blocker family, keeps your heart from racing away b/c PVCs.

Drug interactions.: Per Drugs.Com drug interaction checker, combining metoprolol with the diphenhidramine in Tylenol PM could cause " lowering your blood pressure. You may experience headache, dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting, and/or changes in pulse or heart rate" This does not mean it would occur, it just increases the chances. Melatonin is another option for sleep.

: It's not to soon. Beta blocker effects take place quickly. Long acting metoprolol suffocate is designed to be taken once a day as opposed to the tartrate form. A reasonable heart rate goal to avoid side effects of lightheadedness &amp; fatigue is an awake resting heart rate no lower than 60/minute. I assume you don't have an overactive thyroid.

Metoprolol: Metoprolol  which is marketed  under several names is a beta blocker which helps keep the heart rate regular.  The side effects include slow heart rate or bradycardia and hypotension or low blood pressure.  In men these meds have been associated with sexual dysfunction or erectile dysfunction, although so is heart disease and hypertension.

Concern, not med.: Metoprolol Succinate slows the heart &amp; lowers blood pressure, allowing more blood to fill the coronary arteries &amp; easing the workload on the heart. All of these things should EASE chest discomfort, not worsen it. Whatever you've experienced, is it coincidence that it started while taking Metoprolol? ive just started metoprolol succ er for high bp. at the current dose of 1/2 a 25mg tablet im not noticing a drop yet.  is it too soon to tell if dosage is not enough?  how much should i expect to see my numbers drop? my omron shows 142/90 still.

Give it more time : The blood pressure is not dangerously high. Medications for high blood pressure  can take two weeks to achieve  their full effect. it is a good idea to discuss with the prescriber what target blood pressure you should aim for. Also make a habit of recording and reporting your pulse rate together with the bp.
