i just got lower immediate dentures yesterday.  5 extractions.  no stitches as lowers do tend to move a lot, not able to chew.  can i  use adhesive?

Adhesive: No you should not use adhesive. You must tell your dentist what the problem is and I am almost certain she/he will help you some more.

can i use denture adhesive with immediate denture aftera tooth extraction?

Can be helpful: Having an immediate or transitional denture inserted immediately following extractions can sometimes be difficult for the patient, especially when there are a lot of teeth to be removed and if the surgeon has to reshape a lot of bone to accommodate the denture(s).  

Some patients do have to use a denture adhesive for a period of time until adjustments to the immediate denture are made.

Hot water: Run the denture under hot water and use a tooth brush to clean the adhesive off.

Accepted Answer

Any : You should try and use name brand adhesive using no more than 3 pea sized daps. Avoid those containing zinc. Patient swear by either paste or powder try either and see what works for u.  Remember though, your denture should be evaluated on a yearly basis. It should on average be relined every 3-5 years and a new set made every 5-7 years. Even if it it's "functioning ok", for several reasons.

how long does it take gums to heal before i can wear dentures? i had a full mouth extraction done last week, and would like to know how long before my gums heal enough that i can get dentures and use adhesive?

Several : Several different aspects to this question.

Sometimes dentures are made prior to the extractions so you can leave the office wearing them.  This is called an immediate denture procedure.  The advantage is that you have teeth right away, the disadvantage is you may require more postoperative adjustments to the dentures to make them fit properly.

The second technique involves extracting the teeth and letting the gums heal for about 4 weeks before beginning the process to make the dentures.  This takes longer and you have to go without teeth for awhile but it gives a better fit.

Well made dentures should not require the use of adhesives.  As the jaw bone slowly reabsorbs over time you may find the need for a small amount of adhesive.  If you require a lot of adhesive the denture fit is poor and they should be remade.

i just got 5 teeth extractions and was still kind of bleeding when the nurse put my temp.dentures in with adhesive. i am worried that when i take them out after 24 hours, i pull the clot out and get dry socket?

Accepted Answer

: The bleeding is a good sign of no coming down with a dry socket. The dentures act as compression bandage over the bleeding sockets and promote healing. The clot will be well formed after 24 hours, so just follow post extraction instructions.

An eternity !: If your dentures don't fit, see the experts for evaluation. See the prosthodontist.  Adhesives are for limited use only -- read the package. Overuse is common and leads to allowing you to do things that you should not be doing. This leads to accelerated bone loss and worse fitting dentures. See the expert for evaluation and options. Implants are an excellent option, in many applications. Good luck.

day 5 after full extractions and immediate denture. pain is worst today and i'm becoming depressed. is this normal?

Post op pain: Pain following extractions and insertion of an immediate denture is not uncommon. The extraction sites themselves may be the cause, but more likely the denture is not seated completely and comfortably. Please see your dentist who can place a temporary, soft reline material inside the denture to help cushion the forces on your tender gums.

help docs! i had 12 teeth extracted a wk ago and immediate dentures put in. the extraction sites are tender, normal?

Accepted Answer

Yes: But -- see your dentist , who placed the dentures, for evaluation and adjustment. We see our immediate denture patients the next day, 2-3 days later, 1 week , 2 weeks, and 1 month later for evaluation and adjustment. Then we go from there with tissue conditioning until the 6 month mark.  This is part of the service and is included in the fee. Also, we will see them in between as needed. Good luck.
