Ice & Time: For injuries causing mild to moderate swelling ice packs and time are the best way to get the swelling to go down. Place a thin towel between skin & ice pack to protect skin. Anti-inflammatory medications, like Ibuprofen or naproxen, can also be used by to decrease swelling. If the swelling is due to an allergic reaction, anti-histamines may also be beneficial.

Heat treatment: The best treatment for an evolving stye is to apply very warm soaks (washclosth under very warm -not hot- water applied to the lid about 5 times per day for 5 minutes at  a time will usually get it to respond fairly quickly.  Give this a try for 3-5 days and then see an ophthalmologist if still significant after that time.

: You may have conjunctivitis ether bacterial or viral. You need an appropriate eye drop. see your doctor to get a differential diagnosis and appropriate treatment. Good Luck

Spit in eye: Wash your eyes copiously with cold water to get the irritant out. Apply antibiotic eye drops. Depending on the source of the spit consult your medical doctor. If the spit belonged to another person.  For the allergic reaction of  puffy eyelids you could use OTC viisine for red eyes till you see your doctor.  Spit from a stranger could carry unwanted virus particles

after crying i got a swollen right eye.it hurts when i blink.is there anything i can do to get swelling down and to make it less painful?

Swollen eye: After crying certainly isn't unheard of.  But is it possible you may have scratched your eyeball or have a lash inside the lid?  If you are not using any products in attempts to remedy this, first look for a foreign body and if none, your vision is good, and your swelling not worsening, consider taping your lid shut for 24 hours to see if it will heal itself.  You must see a doctor if worse.

Ice pack: Ice it! if you passed out; feel an unusual weakness, are unable to speak or have anything else out of the ordinary, go to an er; if not some ice and tylenol (acetaminophen) should do the job.

i fell down the stairs and hit  my head at the back.  there is no swelling but i do get a pain now and then. what type of doctor should i go see?

Injury to head: You could simply watch symptoms IF you have not had any loss of consciousness, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, vision or hearing changes, excess fatigue, trouble staying awake. In other words, if risk of concussion is there, you should have an evaluation by a general physician, but if you did not lose consciousness or have any of above symptoms, you could continue to monitor symptoms at home.

No need for CT : Scalp hematoma does not need a CT scan.
We need to be cost conscious and cost effective.
If there is no red flag symptoms like early morning headaches,projectile vomiting and double vision and especially with no symptoms and the swelling getting smaller, just be reassured. If things change let your pcp decide

Ice is quickest: Ice is the quickest way to make swelling go down.  Ice helps most types of swelling, but especially swelling from trauma.  For allergies, rinse the eyes with water and take allergy tablets and eye drops. For bags under the eyes, preparation h can actually help for the short term, but getting enough sleep is best.  Sometimes blepharoplasty surgery is required.
