Depends: There are several treatments for hepatitis b, but choosing one depends on the length of your exposure.  For immediate treatment after infection: vaccination + globulins are given.  For chronic stable: adefovir, pegylate interferon or/and entecavir.  For chronic: there are several combinations of drugs acting on two of the virus's receptors.  Please seek treatment from your primary care physician.

: Some hepatitis B virus (HBV) infections cause little or no ongoing liver damage, and therefore treatment isn't necessary. However, such persons are infectious. Their sex partners and others at potential risk (e.g. injection drug users who might be tempted to share injection equipment) must be vaccinated. Discuss with the doctor or clinic managing your HBV infection. Good luck.

Keep following: Wondering if you actually do have hemochromatosis. Liver enzymes fluctuate and you're still up. You might follow it or consider a genetic test that detects many but not all cases.

No: And what evidence for Hep B ? You can have antibodies to B from a widely available vaccine that has be given to many for about 30 years. We routinely give it to infants to prevent Hep B.

i was deferred from the blood donor service for testing positive for hep b. i am a virgin. i do not take drugs. i have never been admitted to hospital or received a transfusion. could this be a mistake? what else could i have?

See your Dr.: See your primary care Doctor. They can perform a test for Hep B and look at your liver enzymes, etc to determine if the test on your blood was accurate and to discuss where you may have caught it if it is positive.

Depends . . .: Answer depends upon how you define ped. After all, viagra (sildenafil) & Cialis are peds, too, but shouldn't be an issue in folks w/liver disease. In truth, prescription testosterone, either as a shot or via cream/gel/lotion/patch is really very safe as far as your liver goes. It's only oral testosterones that are dangerous as well as anabolic stuff that is designed to keep from breaking down in liver.

: This is hard to assess. We know that the hep B virus can survive in discarded needles &amp; transmit disease through an accidental stick months later. Whether that would happen from dried out blood film on a surface is hard to determine. Saliva has antigerm properties. How it would enter your blood during feeding is unknown. If you are concerned about such an exposure just get tested.

Unclear question: Did you get hep b vaccination? Was the test for just ab to surface antigen or both antibody and surface antigen? It would be helpful to discuss the results with the doctor who ordered the tests.

: Little or no risk. It generally takes a lot more exposure to transmit the virus. Nothing to worry about. Anyway, you might have been vaccinated against hepatitis B in childhood, which has been routine in most industrialized countries (probably including the UK) for 20 years or more. If so, you are immune.
