Cheek bump: It is either a hematoma or an accumulation of healing elements from the trauma. Gentle massage is important so that those elements are removed and the swelling disappears. Ask your doctor if a cortisone cream would help.

Several weeks: Hematomas start soft and harden as the blood inside coagulates. It will slowly turn from a deep purple to a yellow starting at the edges as your body's immune system breaks up and absorbs the old blood. It may take 2-3 weeks to resolve depending on the size. If it gets larger or more painful, seek medical attention.

Bump: Hematoma or contusion should resolve in a 7 to 10 day period. Although picking at it is not helpful as long as you are not scratching the skin this should still resolve. Although if you are traumatizing the area then that will delay healing. Cool compress OK.

: By far, the vast majority of closed head injuries NEVER develop subdural bleeding.  As we age, and brain atrophy ensues, the distance of bridging veins increases, leading to a higher risk of tearing and a subdural bleed.  If at age 18, bleeding does occur, it would be acute and quite noticeable.
