Several weeks: Hematomas start soft and harden as the blood inside coagulates. It will slowly turn from a deep purple to a yellow starting at the edges as your body's immune system breaks up and absorbs the old blood. It may take 2-3 weeks to resolve depending on the size. If it gets larger or more painful, seek medical attention.
