How hard do you have to hit your head to get a subdural hematoma?

These are rarely seen unless there is a significant impact process. Examples include a car crash, sudden impact with a tree skiing downhill, falling from a significant height, bludgeoning with a weapon.

As described, high velocity, high-speed impacts may impart sufficient force to tear bridging veins inferior to the dura brain covering. This is quite uncommon in younger folks who do not have brain atrophy and is seen more often in the elderly. So, less force is needed for a subdural hematoma if one is a senior citizen.
