Depends: If it is on the top part of the tongue and it is coated then try brushing. If it is on the side of the tongue do not bite it. See your dentist for more details.

for the last three years the back of my tongue has been dark purple. it does change, get lighter but never 100% uniform. i am in good health.?

See DDS or ENT: There are a number of possibilities so you need to have a knowledgable professional examine you and make the diagnosis. It may just be pigment, or a pool ol blood vessels.

been having headaches for over a week and the back of my tongue is green. been taking tylenol (acetaminophen) for the headaches.
i am a male, 53 years of age. and in good health

There : There are several causes of headaches. 
Some of the causes are stress causing tension headaches, migraine headaches which are severe, brain tumors, aneurysm, polymyalgia rheumatica, medications etc. 
It is very hard to say why you are having headaches without any history provided and doing an exam. 
I would strongly recommend that you should see your doctor to find out what is causing your headaches.

Regarding green discoloration at the back of the tongue, it is definitely that needs to be looked at. So, you should make an appointment with your primary care doctor.

can palate expansion lower the palate? if not, is there a way to do it? i have a high palate obstructing my lower part of nasal passage leading to many health problems. i think its from hard, upward pressure applied with back of tongue for years?

any ideas why a healthy 48yo male would have a thumbnail-sized red patch on tip of tongue for about 2 months?  the only symptoms -  burning feeling in the mouth and smooth papilae at the tip. candida test came back negative and no sores are present?

See derm/oralsurg: I would suggest that you be evaluated by either a dermatologist or oral surgeon. This could be related to trauma or might be something more significant. Seek derm or oral surgeon care and closely monitor the lesion for any increase in size , color, or texture. Depending on these changes, a bx or further testing might be a possibility.

i have been experiencing pain in my throat for a couple of weeks now. ive had a canker sore for a week on the back of my tongue and today my adams apple is very painful when i touch it. my voice is not affected. dental health is perfect. ?

NEED AN EVALUATION: I believe that you must be seen by a doctor as there is a possible infection. In the meantime you can gargle with very warm salt water. Drink some hot tea with raw honey and take and anti-inflammatory like ibuprofen. But if a bacterial infection you will need an antibiotic most likely.

chance of catching herpes or any virus if someone accidentally scratches back of your hand by his fingernail while playing sports? (small scratch) what if i suspect that person touched his mouth some time before that? what to do with health anxiety?

: No risk for herpes from such contact. There are no easy or quick answers to effectively deal with serious anxiety, whether health related or other. If health anxiety is seriously affecting your life and impairing life happiness, professional counseling likely will be necessary. Good luck.

: Small blood vessels that are visible seems perfectly normal. And since your paramour was wearing a condom, the chances of an STD are reduced to virtually zero.

Thrush?: Thrush could present like that.  People with diabetes or who have been on recent antibiotics or who use steroid pulmonary inhalers (e.g. Flovent) are at higher risk.  Sometimes it is just the surface of the tongue shedding and will resolve with hydration and hygiene (brush it or use a tongue scraper).  Rarely, it can be a sign of more serious problems so if it doesn't resolve then get it checked.
