Thrush?: Thrush could present like that. People with diabetes or who have been on recent antibiotics or who use steroid pulmonary inhalers (e.g. Flovent) are at higher risk. Sometimes it is just the surface of the tongue shedding and will resolve with hydration and hygiene (brush it or use a tongue scraper). Rarely, it can be a sign of more serious problems so if it doesn't resolve then get it checked.

Coated tongue: Many people develop a coating on their tongue which can be easily removed by using a tongue scraper daily. However, if you have pain or discomfort or that does not resolve this issue, you should see your dentist as there are other conditions that require treatment.
