PVD: Usually after a pvd and a normal retinal exam no treatment is necessary. There are definite risks associated with intraocular injection. Only done if absolutely necessary for ocular procedures. The Doctor doing the necessary procedure will go over the risks and necessity of the procedure.

i know that consuming antibiotics can cause c.diff infection. i hv heard that an antibiotic is an antibiotic be it oral or topical. so, can topical antibiotic ointments or antibiotic iv/injection or antibiotic ear/eye drops activate c.diff infection?

Accepted Answer

: Oral and intravenous antibiotics are absorbed systemically and can cause C dif. Topical antibiotics (eye, skin, vaginal, on gums, in ear) do not get systemically absorbed and are very unlikely to cause C dif.

i have a hemi retina occlusion in my left eye and i am told that i will have to have injections in my eye.  are they safe?

Accepted Answer

Usually safe: To prevent the formation of bleeding vessels which could endanger the whole eye, you will receive some injections of a product (called VEGF inhibitor) which can prevent this.  Injections of this type are safe, usually work but may require repetition.  There is always a tiny degree of risk when the back of the eye is injected this way but these injections are commonly given with safety.

injection needed into an eye due to some vision distortion resulting from fluid build-up in back of retina.  what could result be like post injection?

Improved vision: You have received a biopharmacologic agent which is designed to stop leakage from abnormal vessels causing the fluid to build up in the back of the retina.  This sometimes takes several injections over time.  If it works, and it usually does, you should experience an improvement in the vision.  Follow closely the directions of the retinal ophthalmologist who did the injection.

i am due to have an injection done into an eye that is dilated.  would it be safe for me to drive? a relative would otherwise drive me, but with the social distancing in place should the other person drive me to the office and back?

Check with your Doc: Some doctors require you to have someone else drive you for procedures such as this. Contact your doctors office for their recommendations and continue to follow good hand hygiene practices.

9 months ago, i had an intravitreal injection shot for my eye. that has all settled down; however i now have an average of iop of 38.5mm hg. meds are taken to maintain. have you had any patients similar to me where iop eventually lowered after so lon?

Increase pressure: After intravitreal ocular injections of antivegef solutions the pressure will be elevated. It can return to normal after a rather short time however it can be sustained and would require treatment to get the pressure down.This not unusual and will require treatment as needed.

why do i have swelling after a botox injection under the eye?

Botox & Swelling: It is rare to have significant swelling after a Botox inj, but there are a few things to consider. 1) many people have localized swelling after any injection-cool compresses & time may help; 2) rarely in patients w/ very sensitive skin i rec pre-treatment with an antihistamine; 3) allergic reactions are exceedingly rare with Botox but not impossible; 4) the lid area can be quite sensitive in some.

i have a hemi retinol occlusion.  i do not want to have injections.  can i take any medication for it.  can the eye repair itself?

Accepted Answer

Several things:: There is no medication for hemiretinal occlusion (stroke).  The spontaneous recovery is at the edges of the damaged area but the central area where the blood supply was cut off will loss function.  Injections are to prevent abnormal vessels from growing which can threaten the rest of the retina.  Before the injections there was no realistic treatment.  It is your choice to decline them or not.
