YES: Your pain is temporarily gone, but it will return , as the infection remains. See your Endodontist (root canal specialist) for treatment. Professional help is needed. Make the appointment ASAP and get this definitively treated. Good Luck.

Fistula: You had a draining fistula and this area will take some time to,heal after the root canal is completed.  The pain should be decreasing but it  may linger for a week or two.  If it is not healing  and decreasing then follow up with the dentist who did your root canal.

Call Dentist: If you're worried, call Dentist to see if you can be seen sooner.  There is a danger of infection spreading so it should be treated without delay.  Don't panic, but do call for a sooner appointment.

tomorrow, as emergency, periodontist to treat gum abscess. i see a pus filled bead shaped fistula protruding. no pain. what can i expect? very nervous

Don't be: The periodontist will most likely examine your mouth, take some x-rays and discuss before doing anything, what is wrong and what needs to be done.  He\she will probably make the area completely numb so that you don't feel anything, clean it out 
gently, and place you on antibiotics.  Ask all the questions you want so that you will be comfortable about the procedure beforehand.  You'll be fine!
