See answer : Sorry to hear about your problem. Pilonidal cysts can be a chronic, recurring, frustrating problem: often requiring several procedures and sometimes prolonged wound care to finally eradicate. From description, it sounds as if the abscess has spontaneously ruptured and is draining. If so, a visit to the er may not be needed. If pain is tolerable and not febrile and sick, would contact surgeon in am.

BOTH: These cysts will continue to recur unless the cyst is completely surgically drained or excised in total. Bacterial cultures are mandatory for correct antibiotic therapy. I advise using sterile gauze pads gently placed over  the ruptured cyst.

Impossible wishes: First why would you think that you can change what nature does in this kind of infection.  He must drain the pus to get rid of it.  Never would you want to interfere with the natural healing process of an infection.

Pilonidal cyst: You need surgical closure of pilonidal tract . Simple drainage is not a permanent solution. It will continue to get reinfected .

Sounds like a pilo-: -nidal cyst. If there is some swelling there it may B a fatty deposit where the cyst is, or a quiescent area from previous infection. The fact that has a dimple, is the reason it's a pilonidal cyst. If not hot, sore, red, it is best to leave it alone. A surgeon should B who U C 4 this.
