Need more info: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, your platelet count is not just low, it is dropping and warrants an evaluation by a hematologist. It is not amenable to a HealthTap consult.

Those are the same: The numbers are the same. Life is not exact and neither are the machines in the lab. Numbers are usually estimates. It's like one person saying there were 25600 people at the presidential inauguration, and another person saying there were 27500 people at the inauguration... the two numbers are the same because life is not exact. Platelets reference range for normal people:  about 150-450 thousand.

had my annual bloodwork and all good except mpv is high at 13.5 the range is 7.5-12.5. my platelet count is 256 which is good as range 140-400. do i need to worry about high mpv?  can i do anything to lower? everything else is great?

No concern: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Talk to the doctor who ordered the tests. Having said that, a slightly elevated MPV is not  cause for concern. You are likely to do more harm by chasing it than leaving it alone.

Get checked: The hemoglobin level of 9.1 is low, and signifies anemia. Also, lymphocytes 85% is very high. These findings are in addition to the platelet changes. Does your doctor suspect viral infection? Acute lymphoblastic leukemia &amp;#40;ALL&amp;#41;? You need a physician followup urgently, &amp; possibly a hematology consultation as well, especially if leukemia &amp;#40;ALL&amp;#41; is suspected. Hope that helps.

i am 72 yrs old. all my blood was good with the exception of my wbc (3.3 ) and my platelets (112). i am a diabetic. my wbc has been low before and my platelet count has too. can metformin cause this ? my dosage was doubled?

: If metformin treatment was long term there is increasing awareness about the possible side effect of creating vit B12 deficiency, due to drug induced malabsorption. Leukopenia, low WBC and thrombocytopenia, low platelets are commonly seen in such cases. However, there are many other conditions, such as liver disease for example that can cause such changes,follow up with a hematologist will be best

i have a platelet count of 112 and my wbc is 3.3 should i be concerned ? my platelet count is always low around 123. i take a lot of diabetic medicines and my wbc has been low in the past im a 72 year old woman. all my blood work was good?

: I consider the two platelet counts as almost the same values. The difference has little if any significance. I would not worry about it.
