Easy to Check: Why ask about the odds and continue to wonder for two more years? A simple blood test will remove all doubt. If you are HIV negative, you will have nothing to worry about. If you are HIV positive, it is a treatable disease, and as with many medical problems the sooner the better.

AIDS: hard to say how often one will be sick once AIDS is present, but the risk of dying and being sick from other opportunistic infections is high without treatment, diseases such as tuberculosis, lymphoma, pneumocystis  carinii pneumonia, toxoplasmosis, cytomegalovirus infection etc... are very prevalent in AIDS

Virus v disease: Aids is the manifestation of advanced HIV infection. The HIV virus destroys certain immune cells, cd4+ t-cells, and when those t-cell numbers get too low, the infected person begins to get unusual illnesses. This syndrome of illnesses is called aids.

Oraquik test: Sensitivity is about 92% and specificity is above 99%. Hence you can have a false negative in every 12 to 13 test. Hence if suspicion is high a negative test needs further testing. A positive test while not absolute has very high probability of accuracy. This home test has very high probality of predicting HIV if the test is positive. Its ability to exclude HIV is lower.

Cannot be sure: The most important indicator of how long someone may live with aids is how low is the CD4 count and does the person have any opportunistic infections.  You cannot say for sure just how well or poorly someone is doing just by looking at them.

With full aids: You will still have antibodies positive and high viral load and decreased CD4 count. Full blown AIDS is very easy to diagnose. See a primary care physician or Infectious disease specialist. Early diagnosis and treatment could be life saving

HIV antibody testing: The HIV antibody blood tests become positive within a few weeks of acquiring the virus and then remain positive for life. With the standards tests now used, there is no such thing as someone with AIDS who has a negative test result. That might have happened very rarely with the earliest blood tests, but those have not been used for the last 20 years.

Depends: Hiv, when untreated, becomes aids after approximately 10-12 years.  Patients not treated used to die within a few years after that.  Today, strong medications exist that can effectively treat HIV so that it does not progress into aids.  The medications also can often restore normal immune function to someone who has aids.  So, if you have HIV or aids, see a doctor who is an HIV specialist.
