Depends: Hiv, when untreated, becomes aids after approximately 10-12 years. Patients not treated used to die within a few years after that. Today, strong medications exist that can effectively treat HIV so that it does not progress into aids. The medications also can often restore normal immune function to someone who has aids. So, if you have HIV or aids, see a doctor who is an HIV specialist.
