: They may have new tests up use every once in a while.  Sometimes it is not possible to say for certain what you have until it evolves some more.  Time will tell.

As one of my old professors used to say: I never told you medicine is easy. In the mean time I would find something you like and can do and do it. Worrying usually does not help.

AML m0 type: Prognosis of AML depends upon the age of patient, comorbid conditions and how they can tolerate and navigate through the induction and consolidation therapies. Some cytogenetic features also impart worse prognosis. Type m0 is highly treatable and good chance of a therapeutic response. Stem cell transplant eval should also be done at a bigger center.

Nothing: The acute myelogenous leukemias simply appear. There are a few uncommon genetic lesions that predispose a person, as down radiation and perhaps down's, but it is a mistake to look for a particular "cause" or "trigger" for this or most other cancers (the major exception being smoking and lung cancer).

Very weak; Bu/Cy.: Auto SCT is done occasionally for patients with AML in compete remission who have no matched sibling or unrelated donors for an allogeneic transplant. Patients will feel very weak from high-dose chemo plus/minus radiation until engraftment when new blood cells are produced---about 3 weeks. Commonly used regimens for SCT may include cyclophosphamide (Cytoxan) and busulfan +/- radiation.

AML: I am very sorry to hear that your family is struggling with this difficult situation.  The doctors there on the ground will know best and I am sure trying every thing they can to make a difference. But, this is a very harsh diagnosis and i would hope that you and your family and friends are saying everything that needs to be said if this is indeed the last week.

2nd cousin and her father, my great uncle both had aml leukemia at 50 and 66. no other of the 22 members in 3 generations had it. hereditary?

Coincidence: Acute myelogenous leukemia is seldom a familial disease. I would not be at all concerned. The one known gene is ataxia-telangiectasia carrier state, and this is not worth checking since the risk is small and you aren't going to do anything different (plan life, avoid exposure, early surveillance) in any case. I'm glad you're taking a proactive appraoch & sorry you lost your relatives early.
