Fibroids: Fibroids are benign smooth muscle growths from uterine wall muscle tissue. They are not related to pregnancy, fetal tissue or embryonic tissue. They are also not related to the type os sexual intercourse one participates in.

can fibroids cause you to have vaginal  bleeding during the entire 9 months of pregnancy & not cause a miscarriage?

Accepted Answer

Not usually: Fibroids are more likely to cause pain than bleeding in pregnancy.  Other causes of bleeding such as a placenta too close to your cervix, bleeding from your placenta, a shortening cervix or cervical infection would be more common and need to be eliminated as the cause of bleeding.

can fibroids outside the uterus cause miscarriage in the first few weeks of pregnancy?

Inside, yes: Fibroids inside the uterus can cause miscarriages but outside not so much. The fibroids would have to be very large and/or intrude upon the intrauterine cavity itself to do so. Then, it will interfere with continued fertilized ovum implantation and growth.

i had a miscarriage 2 days ago. i was asked to do a pelvic scan. it was discovered that i have an anterior intramural uterine fibroid of 20mm  18mm . could that be the cause of the miscarriage? and can it pose a threat in future pregnancy?

Yes and maybe: Intramural fibroids usually impact pregnancies in the third trimester when the uterine expansion is competing with the developing fetus. Sub-mucous fibroids (under the lining of the womb) can cause 1st trimester miscarriages. Future pregnancies with your intra-mural fibroid are a 50/50 proposition if it greatly enlarges. Myomectomy is an option in that case.(Fibroid removal saving the uterus)

what causes recurrent chemical pregnancies? i have had three now. the er found fibroids. my fertility specialist found nothing but a healthy uterus.

Several reasons.: Every time one becomes pregnant there is a 20% chance of miscarriage.  Most of the time there is no underlying reason behind 3 miscarriages.  However we often do an investigation at this point.  Some causes are coagulation disorders and autoimmune disorders.  You should see  your gyn for a recurrent miscarraige work up.

Perhaps - : If a dr. Did a pelvic exam and thought the uterus was enlarged, they may have suspected or suggested a possible pregnancy - when a fibroid was making the uterus larger than normal.  With any kind of imaging (ultrasound, ct scan, mri) - it would not be possible to mistake a pregnancy for a fibroid.

FROM NONE TO A LOT: Many women have fibroids without having any problems with their  pregnancy. It depends on size and location. If your fibroids are large or located inside the lining of the uterus, they could cause a lot of trouble. Fibroids can lower the chance of getting pregnant, increase the chance of miscarriage, cause preterm labor, bad pain and increased risk of cesarean section.

Yes: Uterine fibroids can regrow if they are  not totally removed and cause complications during the pregnancy and delivery. Fibroid growth is stimulated by estrogen and during pregnancy, estrogen values are markedly enlarged.

Yes: Fibroids can grow and degenerate depending on their vascular and hormonal support.
