Yes: In this case weight is more important than age in determining dose. But i advise against taking anything to lower fever unless he is miserable, as fever is a key aspect of how our bodies fight infections- our immune system works better and bacteria ; viruses have difficulty surviving high temps. Reducing fever sabotages your immune system and prolongs the infection! treat discomfort, not fever.

Doctor can examine: A cold caused by cold viruses is usually left alone, or over-the-counter medications (Tylenol or Motrin for fever, Robitussin DM for cough, etc...) can be used for a few days. The flu caused by influenza viruses is treated by antiviral medication in some cases, unless 3 days have passed since getting sick. A sore throat can be tested to see if it is strep throat. If strep, antibiotics are needed.
