got dry eye made worse by wearing masks. get tear ducts plugged & use theratears. one eye feels sore under top lid. i gently clean my eyes with cotton & when i rub the eye it hurts. is that the dry eye or something else now?

Accepted Answer

Chalazion: This may be a chalazion which is a tender lump in the eyelid formed because of a plugged oil gland duct. This often resolves with hot(not too hot) moist compresses every few hours. If not improved consult an ophthalmologist for accurate diagnosis and proper treatment.

dry eye, ocular migraines & eye strain & fatigue. eyes checked regularly tear ducts plugged. can that contribute to double vision lasting a minute or 2 while on computer? had to close eyes. no other symptoms. happened a while ago and never again?

Accepted Answer

: Transient double vision, while  working on computer, can happen not infrequently to many normal individuals secondary to eye fatigue, and would not be a cause for concern if occurring but once "never again".

can there be good eye drops to use for permanently, blocked tear ducts?

Accepted Answer

No: You probably need surgery to relieve the obstruction.   Drops do not help at this stage.

my 2 month old has clogged tear ducts in both eyes. what can i do to help her? her eyes are always very crusted after she cries.

Accepted Answer

Gentle massage: Gently massage the tear ducts with the pads of your index finger with a gentle up and down motion with each diapering. Make sure your nail is trimmed short to avoid injury to your daughter. Most of these resolve within the first year, only rarely do they need further treatment.

8yro boy has never cried tears. eyes are well lubricated and watery at times but has never cried tears even when a baby. no clogged tear ducts either?

I don't see a proble: I am not sure if that's a problem if everything else is normal. As long as his eyesight is ok and his eye structures are functioning well, he may be fine.

had 2 tear ducts cauterized and didn't  help so had all 4 done. now eyes r tearing nonstop. will tearing stop with time? tried claritin (loratadine) but no luck.

Accepted Answer

Too much done: Four duct cautery is often helpful for very dry eye, but can be too much for those who still have some tear production.  Consider returning to doctor to try to reopen one on each side.

how long do gunky eyes/clogged tear ducts last on an infant? mine is 7 weeks.

Blocked tear duct: Blocked tear ducts can persis for many months. I normally recommend controlling the mild secondary infection with intermittant antibiotic eye drops until 4-6 months of age. I refer the small # who persist beyond that time to a pediatric ophthalmologist for probing of the ducts.

3 mth old was born, he had a problem with his tear ducts & put drops in his eye. it got better. his eye just started tear and gook again. pls advice?

Doctor can check: Babies who have increased tears in the eyes may actually have some blockage in the tear ducts (drainage ducts near the bridge of the nose), so the babies' tears & mucus just stay visible. A pediatric eye doctor can examine the eye to be sure there isn't a problem within the eyeball itself, and plan treatment. There should be no effect on vision, if the teariness is just due to blocked ducts.

so a tear duct becomes blocked or lacrimal duct becomes inflamed on one eye then can these lead to similar issues in the other eye?

Not usually: The tear ducts are totally separate so a problem in one will not affect the other. However the underlying cause of a problem in one can cause a problem in the other. For example, age-related stenosis of the lacrimal duct can affect both eyes.

on my waterline inside my eye i know we have tear ducts are they white? i have one that's swollen n my other eye it's fine it's tiny

Accepted Answer

Eye exam: The tear ducts are located on the inside corner of the eyelids (closer to the nose where the eyelashes stop) on the upper and lower lids. The tear ducts are normally not swollen or white. You may have a tear duct infection (canaliculitus). You also have oil glands along the lid margin. These may get clogged and can result in a white swollen appearance or a stye. See your eye doctor for evaluation.
