Further monitoring a: Further monitoring is advised. This should include repeat CA 125 testing twice more , done 1-2 months apart. Imaging of the abdomen and pelvis with US is a good idea. If the CA 125 continues to increase progressively then I would consider further interventions. Otherwise it may be just a fluke.

Ovaries: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Talk to the doctor who ordered the tests. Having said that,  CA 125 is a screening test for ovarian cancer, albeit not a good one. What is your Questio: Please ask a question, so we can help clarify your concerns. Ca125 can go up due to many abdominal conditions causing irritation, inflammation or infection. A value like yours is not of much concern to me. You need to ask your doctor why she checked it in the first place? She must have had some reasons to do the test...So she can address it better than i can.

Complex Ovarian Cyst: It is not uncommon for a doctor to be cautious and have you seen by a gyn oncologist with a complex ovarian cyst. Most ovarian cysts are benign but some can be cancerous. The size and ultrasound appearance of the cyst as well as the results of the blood tests may raise or lower the suspicion of cancer. It might be best to ask your doctor what they are thinking because they have those details.

hello doc, ovarian serous cystadenoma of 7.4cms  was diagnosed accidentally, . mri  confirms the condition. ca 125 value is 11.44. i do not have any bleeding problems. i had got my last period in may 2015.i was advised open hysterectomy. please advic?

The mass needs to: come out. Removing the ovarian mass is essential for your health. It would be better to have the uterus and both ovaries removed at the same time.

Ovarian cyst ?'s: An ovarian cyst shown on three CT scans without change in size or complexity, does not necessarily require a "BSO".  Get a second opinion from a physician not associated with your present GYN physician.  If the surgery is recommended for "hot flashes/mood swings/irritability", low dose bcps may be a better remedy.

Carcinoid tumor ?'s: A hysterectomy is not generally curative of true carcinoid tumor/symptoms, and a "total hysterectomy" is defined as just removal of the uterus, leaving the ovaries alone.  A CT showing an ovarian cyst does not require immediate surgery unless the cyst is complex. Get a second opinion, b/c "BSO" will not correct carcinoid, which is usually multicentric and outside of the ovaries.

No explanation: One reason that CA125 is such a poor cancer screen is that a great many healthy people run relatively high levels for no apparent reason. .IThe key is managing her underlying illness if at all possible. I trust that cause has been found and is not tumor.

See gyn oncologist: Unfortunately this could be a sign of primary peritoneal cancer or other malignancy and you need to be evaluated by a gyn oncologist immediately.  Best of luck
