That is an excellent: Snack.  Before bed is ok if you are not excessive. Slow cook oatmeal for a filling snack with soluble fiber that can help to reduce your LDL cholesterol.

2 weeks after umbilical hernia repair, can't eat as much. get full much faster than before.  used to eat 1 cup oatmeal (dry meas.) before bed.   some days, more.  now, it makes me too full.  is this ok?

Discuss with your : Surgeon. It's usually stomach surgery that would affect the appetite and not hernia or intestinal operation. Could just be psychological. If you're losing weight with vomiting and diarrhea , go follow up with your dr right away!

Oatmeal is very filling &amp; may therefore help you eat fewer calories and lose weight.

Yes: Traditionally prepared oatmeal is very healthy food, not instant oatmeal. Take 10 to 15 min to prepare it, add slices of banana, blueberries & strawberries. Organic honey, a teaspoon of organic coconut oil with ground cinnamon can be added & it will make a perfect breakfast together with a cup of black coffee or tea without sugar. Yummy yummy!

Food Confession: Oatmeal is healthy and filling. Some brands contain magnesium, which can help with sleep. However, stay away from the instant oatmeal packets which are full of sugar. Also if you eating in the middle of the night, it may be a sign that you are not getting enough calories in the day. Just make sure you are eating well and frequently throughout the day to maintain a healthy diet.

Oatmeal/weight loss?: There is ususually a fair amount of sugar in the oatmeal breakfasts. Also if one includes the add-ons; more sugar, crea, bacon bits, orange slices, banana slices, one may not be on much a weight control path.
