Several solutions: For dry mouth I have found that products such as biotene help. I suggest you consult your dentist as dry mouth can be caused be several factors including salivary gland blockage, meds, etc. As far as pain after extraction, it should last maybe 5-7 days. Solution would be pain killers. Complications can include dry socket or infection so i would consult with your dentist.

i just had a tooth extraction. i am finding i am waking up with dry mouth (daily) and a sore throat. is this a normal response from my body,?

It shouldn't be: May be that you are mouth breathing at night, could be that you coincidentally ended up with a sore throat. You did not mention if is was a wisdom tooth, if you were infected, or if you are on antibiotics or other meds, so that should be considered, too.

i have a vile taste in my mouth 11 days after a quadruple wisdom tooth extraction and a week after being treated for dry sockets. it is not improving.?

This is common: Most patients complain of a bad odor in mouth for up three weeks especially after having dry sockets.  Rinse with peroxyl and ask your dentist for an irrigation syringe.  This is a plastic syringe that will allow you to clean out your sockets with warm salt water to help them heal and help with bad odor.

7 days post wisdom tooth extraction & scab came off from lower. rinsed mouth with salt water and noticed a brown object in the sink.
there is a hole on bottom. no severe pain. top has scab intact. i do have tmj.
is this ok? is dry socket possible?

Yes can: The blood clot in extraction socket helps regenerate bone .If the lower right socket is empty &amp; starts smelling and pain gradually increases ,you must see the Dentist who did extraction , he might have given you Antibiotic as prophylaxis otherwise if needed he will prescribe Antibiotic and pain medication as needed .
TMJ problem at times increases after extraction due to wide opening of mouth .

Persistent pain: It could be an infection, exposed bone, alveolitis or from an adjacent tooth just to mention the more likely possibilities. You need to see the dentist who removed the tooth for a follow up evaluation. We can't diagnose or treat the problem over the internet.

It's not: It's a normal fibbing clot.  If you had dry socket you would have any or all of severe pain, bleeding, foul breath, swelling, stiff neck, swollen glands, fever, etc.  For your own peace of mind return to the 
Dentist or specialist Oral Surgeon that did the extraction for a post-surgical evaluation.

No problem: Normal healing process. As long as it is covered no worries about dry socket. Dry socket occurs when clot is lost and socket is empty and open, then must heal from bottom

i had a wisdom tooth extraction (tooth #18). i am now about 75 hours post extraction. the white clot (or piece of it?) dislodged and i spit it out. i can't see in the mirror if there is other material left. no pain. could i have dry socket sans pain?

Dry socket: Caused when clot washes out prematurely leaving bone exposed to oral bacteria. It is quite painful. Usually accompanied by foul odor, bad taste, malaise, fever. If you are con corned, call your treating Dentist or Oral Surgeon and report your situation.

how long do you have to have gauze stuck in your mouth after a tooth extraction?

Accepted Answer

Check them in 30 min: Good pressure with gauze will help a clot form.  This will prevent dry sockets, and allow healing. Check the guaze in 30 minutes then change them about every hour.  Sometimes you can be done with them in a hour, and sometimes you have to change them several times.  If you are still bleeding, use thumb pressure on the gauze.
