Not usually: Temazepam (restoril) is used as a sedative-hypnotic, for people with insomnia.  I've never heard of anyone using it for anxiety alone.  It can act in 30-60 minutes, and if you took it in daytime you could be asleep rather than merely calm!  so i wouldn't suggest doing that.  There are better choices for anxiety -- especially having a good evaluation so the best choices can be made.

Exercise: Exercise is a great way to relieve stress. Your body releases endorphins during exercise, which can help you feel calm. If you exercise 30 - 60 minutes a day, your stress levels can improve. When stressed, take 5 slow, deep breaths with your eyes closed, then roll your shoulders forward 5 times, then back 5 times. This will slow your heart rate and release tension in your neck and shoulders.

Several, not best: There are several types of anxiety & as a result several approaches are needed. Without drugs means primarily cbt (cognitive behavioral therapy) & desensitization therapy. There are a few natural but quite weak herbal remedies. Meditation, acupuncture & acupressure are useful non drug anxiety treatments as well. Significant anxiety often needs meds to get started and at times to stay well also.

Anxiety is best: treated with cognitive behavior therapy, clinical hypnosis, practice of the Relaxation Response (see book of the same name by Benson).  Medication may play a role but don't rely on that alone.  Behavioral techniques taught by a clinical psychologist are long-lasting and will help in other areas beyond the present-day stressors. Depends and yes: Fluoxamine, or luvox, (fluvoxamine) is the most effective ssri for anxiety because it binds the strongest to the serotonin reuptake receptors. That said, it also tends to carry more side effects than other ssri's, which is why it is usually only used for severe anxiety disorders. Like other ssri's, it can take up to 4 weeks to work, depending on the dose and the nature of your anxiety.
