No: Scoliosis tends not to worsen in adulthood, but patients with scoliosis may get back pain, stiffness with a long drive from poor posture etc.

Scoliosis : Scoliosis in and of itself is most often not a painful and debilitating condition.  Given your development of difficulties with pain in the legs and hip with standing, one would be concerned regarding the additional development of issues of spinal stenosis or other cause for compression of the spinal cord or nerves running to your legs.  Typically in cases of spinal stenosis, the pain is resolved with sitting or bent posture walking such as with pushing of a shopping cart.
With your development of new symptoms, a follow up evaluation with your physician is recommended.  Even more concerning and indication for urgent evaluation would be the development of issues of bowel or bladder incontinence.

No: And at age 22 you will not develop new scoliosis unless you have a degenerative condition of your spine. Sitting goofy can result in bad posture, cramps.

is it normal after scoliosis surgery to have a late period or different cycle?

Accepted Answer

Technically no: There is not a direct relationship between scoliosis surgery and having a late period. It is possible an indirect effect of anesthesia or the "stress of surgery" may have played a small role. Do check with your Ob as early on and with stress periods are subject to have variability. In the meantime, exercise and Pilates for core strengthening may  help.

no brace, no period yet. is surgery the only real option?

No!!!!!!: If you haven't yet had your daughter evaluated by an orthopedic surgeon, then that is the first thing you need to do. If she has seen orthopedics and their recommendation was surgery, then please get another opinion by a different orthopedic surgeon! Surgery is rarely the first step in treating scoliosis.

Scoliosis ?: A "16 yo female" with scoliosis who has an established menstrual cycle is probably a good candidate for corrective surgery, and the healing (bone mending) in that age group may be preferable to waiting until later, but there is no "rush" to do so except for emotional benefit from not having the scoliosis, especially in young women.

my 12 year old daughter got her period 10 months ago. she was just diagnosed with scoliosis a few weeks ago. she has 35 degree thoracic and 40 degree lumbar curve. she has no symptoms. we have referral to ortho. what is likely treatment?

: At her age the scoliosis can still get worse, however many times they will brace moderate scoliosis at least until they hit skeletal maturity (~17 in girls or 3 years after 1st menses)  before surgical options are attempted. Bracing may improve the issue enough that surgery can be avoided.

Your choice: Surgery will be the treatment to correct severe scoliosis, however if after surgery patient may need braces or if surgery is not done braces may offer some help with symptoms

i have scoliosis from 15 years but no pain nor any other difficulty 1m 25 now how can i treat ot without surgery. are there any changes it can get worse with time?

Chiropractor or PT : A chiropractor can stretch and manipulate you to help the curve not worsen. Physical therapy can teach you exercises to decrease back pain if you develop it. You do not have to do anything at this point. Treatment and frequent monitoring of the scoliosis is important in kids who have not had a growth spurt yet.

???? CAN: If you are an adolescent  the chance of curve progression is real, therefore frequent follow ups are important, so that proper treatment can be instituted in a timely manner. In adults the curves do not normally progress, associated symptom may increase.
