A member asked:

My daughter is 14 and has scoliosis with curvature of over 50 deg (53). no brace, no period yet. is surgery the only real option?

No!!!!!!: If you haven't yet had your daughter evaluated by an orthopedic surgeon, then that is the first thing you need to do. If she has seen orthopedics and their recommendation was surgery, then please get another opinion by a different orthopedic surgeon! Surgery is rarely the first step in treating scoliosis.

Scoliosis: Consult a pediatric ortopedist. Since she has not had a period yet, bracing may be helpful
