My 12 year old daughter got her period 10 months ago. she was just diagnosed with scoliosis a few weeks ago. she has 35 degree thoracic and 40 degree lumbar curve. she has no symptoms. we have referral to ortho. what is likely treatment?

At her age the scoliosis can still get worse, however many times they will brace moderate scoliosis at least until they hit skeletal maturity (~17 in girls or 3 years after 1st menses) before surgical options are attempted. Bracing may improve the issue enough that surgery can be avoided.

Bracing. Braced child is typically monitored every 6 months until skeletal maturity. Surgery is often recommended if the curve progresses to 50 or higher degrees despite bracing.
