Depends: It depends on how severe the numbness was before surgery and for how long you had your symptoms. If your surgery was to repair a cut nerve, it can sometimes take 12-18 months for sensation to return and it may not be 100%. If surgery was done because your nerve is under pressure (as in carpal tunnel syndrome), the numbness may resolve quickly if your symptoms were not too constant or chronic.

Time: Typically acute edema and inflammation from hand surgery takes 4 months to resolve and you will not reach a medical endpoint regarding your surgery for approximately 12 months. Discomfort one month out from surgery is well within normal limits.

Not really: Exersises after ctr surgery ( early on) may cause more swelling and possibly more numbness .You want to move your fingers but the numbness will get better w/ time . Your preoperative symptoms ( pain, numbness etc.) tend to improve dependent on how severe and how long- lasting they were before surgery. Good luck to you!

Not typically.: As long as you can feel and grip, your ability to write should not change.  If you have significant weakness after surgery, you may notice some temporary changes in your writting. These usually resolve as you recover from surgery.  Occupational therapy may be needed after surgery.
