i am curious if hypo active thyroid problems run in my family could i possibly have a hyperactive thyroid?

Yes: Autoimmune thyroid disease is complex. Patients with family history of thyroid diseases can make blocking or stimulating proteins against the TSH receptor, causing either low or high thyroid hormone levels.  Additionally, the immune system may just attack the thyroid gland--- as a result,  transient hyperthyroidism can occur , followed by hypothyroidism. Follow up is very important.

based off of symptoms, ive never been convinced that my thyroid is ok. it appears to be fluctuating a lot. thyroid issues run in my family and i used to be on medication for being under. questioning hashimotos or graves since it fluctuates a lot?

: Symptoms rarely useful for diagnosis or treatment of thyroid problems. For Hashimotos you need antibody titers measured. If you are looking at only thyroid sites there are many crazies out there. Recommend you pay for 1 months subscription to uptodate.com and read all am about thyroid and all other medical issues. Will save time money and maybe even your life. If u take biotin messes with TSH mess

i have been having problems swallowing i have gerd; also thyroid problems run in my family , how can i know which one it may be? thanks !!

Exam will help: If you have an enlarged thyroid or a nodule that your doctor can feel an ultrasound of the thyroid can be ordered to determine if the problem is with the thyroid.  The GI specialist may need to look into your esophagus again with the scope to see if there is scar tissue or a blocked from the inside.

get tested: It could be acanthosis nigricans which can signify Insulin resistance. If you have a strong family history of diabetes, and you're worried about it, get a blood test to find out your levels. Ask for a test called a1c.

22/m/190lbs have , neck twitch when i smile or make a gesture, no weakness , what are the chances if me having als , it does not run in my family ?

Very small: You are extremely young for ALS which typically does not affect people until 50 for those with a higher incidence in their family. The twitches can have multiple causes and so you should see  a Neurologist. They do not mean ALS which is characterized by muscle spasticity and rapidly progressive weakness due to muscle wasting. This results in difficulty speaking, swallowing, and breathing.

Very concerning: You are very young to have something like ALS. It would still be wise for you to see a Neurologist to evaluate the twitching. This might involve an MRI, EMG and possibly even EEG testing. The weakness should be thoroughly worked up including detailed history to understand what posture you are doing that may exacerbate this or if there is another cause compressing your spinal cord. Yes: There are many herbal and nutritional products available for this. One of my favorite lines is by premiere research labs, which has several formulas for endocrine support. When taking something for the thyroid, also make sure to take something for adrenal support, as these two glands are interdependent.

if your thyroid is under active will this make you feel tired and run down? what can you do to make your thyroid normal?

Hypothyroid: Yes, hypothyroidism is chacterized by tiredness.  Get actual test to measure levels. Can take iodine to enhance thyroxine production. Historically, iodine deficiency was a common cause of goiter and under active thyroid.

i have a rash on my neck over my thyroid and have been running a low grade temp off and on for weeks. the rash looks similar to a lupus lesion, but not exactly. i have a brother with a type of lupus and i have dm2. can it be lupus?

Probably not: can't really tell from this brief description, lupus diagnosis isn't easy, several criteria have to be met, and blood tests to be checked, your doctor would help you with that. Low grade temperature on and off for weeks can be due to several other causes, wish you wellness
