Yes: Autoimmune thyroid disease is complex. Patients with family history of thyroid diseases can make blocking or stimulating proteins against the TSH receptor, causing either low or high thyroid hormone levels. Additionally, the immune system may just attack the thyroid gland--- as a result, transient hyperthyroidism can occur , followed by hypothyroidism. Follow up is very important.

Why does your thyroid go hyperactive after being hypo?
Based off of symptoms, Ive never been convinced that my thyroid is ok. It appears to be fluctuating a lot. Thyroid issues run in my family and I used to be on medication for being under. Questioning Hashimotos or Graves since it fluctuates a lot?
My T3 (liothyronine) (138),T4 (1.4),TSH (1.1) tests normal. Dr didn't run any additional tests. 1.4-1.8 cm nodules on thyroid. Hypo symptoms. Do I get 2nd opinion?
