get tested: It could be acanthosis nigricans which can signify Insulin resistance. If you have a strong family history of diabetes, and you're worried about it, get a blood test to find out your levels. Ask for a test called a1c.

Acanthosis: You may have acanthosis nigracans which is a dark ring around the neck commonly seen in overweight patients with early diabetes. You should be screened for diabetes asap.
