: there are some studies to show plaque regression these are usually involving Staten doses that are significantly high. As far as an other advantage of statins they have an anti-inflammatory effect on the lining of the arteries. In addition we all know that by lowering cholesterol with a Staten significantly reduces events such as heart attacks and strokes.

Statins: Depends on lipid profile. Stains have varing effects on reduction of cholesterol profile. Pravastatin and Lovastatin - low side effects but weaker. Simvastatin - tend to avoid now given side effect issues. Lipitor (atorvastatin) good and now generic. Crestor brand only - good agent. Others available. Getting ldl, hdl, and triglycerides to goal is the key to preventing progression of coronary artery disease.

if my cholesterol has been a little over 200 (borderline) since 2003 should i have cognitive issues? i am 65 female. my doctor is putting me on a statin soon.  would the statin reverse any plaque buildup?

No and may be : High cholesterol isn't related to cognitive function, at least not directly. Statins will prevent further build up of plaque, may or may not reverse the already deposited plaque, wish you wellness

You want them within normal range too, especially triglycerides would be below 100 is better, besides keeping a healthy lifestyle, low dose statins would be helpful if numbers are out of range, otherwise no need , in my opnion, wish you wellness

: Calcification in the aorta in not uncommon in a person your age. It indicates underlying atherosclerosis. The lesion may be symptomatic, or it could be part of severe disease that could result in aneurysma that my rupture and cause death. Your doctor can ascertain the severity of lesion and it you have an aneurysm.

Not much: Hi. There's not much "natural" you can do to help reduce atherosclerotic plaque except healthy diet and regular exercise, and obviously don't smoke. The biggest issue, your genetics, is not a modifiable variable. You're young, but there are bad genes that can cause atherosclerotic events in your age group.
