Root canal: If your cardiologist gives you medical clearance, it should not be hard finding someone to do the needed root canal. They should at least get you on some type of antibiotic therapy.

Extraction..: ... Or apicoectomy, if indicated. Nowadays, dental implants are a terrific alternative to trying to resolve infections and problems like yours that just don't seem to go away. Speak to your dentist about your options.

Dentist can re-check: A person who started a root canal but did not finish, may or may not have a temporary crown on the tooth. The tooth may be more likely to crack or break if it is not properly crowned. It may be more likely to get decay if it is not protected and sealed off from the bacteria and food substances. It is best to check with a dentist to get the tooth well-protected.

Training: A General Dentist has 4-5 years of training.  An Endodontists has an additional 2-3 years of specialty residency.  Seek quality, not bargain, care.

Healing: Especially if cavity was deep, may take considerable time to become comfortable.  Cold sensitivity better than hot.  Discuss this w your Dentist who knows you better than we do.  Root canal treatment is an option, but may not be necessary.  Give it time.

i had a root canal a few weeks ago and am scheduled for my crown or permanent filling tomorrow. i have a flight tomorrow evening. is this a problem?

Shouldn't Be Problem: Since the root canal treatment removed the nerve &amp; especially infection, there is little left to cause issue. You will probably leave with a temp crown so avoid sticky foods until final crown is delivered (usually 2-3 weeks). Be sure to tell your dentist first though and they might give you Magic Mouthwash to rinse with since the gum can be irritated after the crown prep is complete.

had root canal done almost a month ago over my crown, still have bitter taste/smell (hasn't gotten any better). was told to get a new crown at some point even though i just got it early this year. will getting a new crown fix this problem?

: If you had this crown made less than a year ago, there should be no issues. The odor/taste may be from a different issue. This needs further investigation.

Needs re-evaluation: See your treating dentist. Root tip may be infected or the tooth may have a fracture. Needs to be tested and visualized to know for sure.
