what is the difference between heart arrhythmia and palpitations?

Sensation vs. Rhythm: Palpitations are the sensation of skipping or abnormal heart beats.  These might be from abnormal beats, or just the normal rhythm beating fast or stronger than normal.  Heart arrythmias are actual, documented (by ekg, holter, event monitor) abnormal heart contractions.

how can you tell difference between heart palpitation and arrhythmia? occasionally get fluttering heartbeat, not necessarily related to stress or exercise. has happened through adult life, only lasts for seconds at a time. feels scary, but goes away.

Hard to guess: An adult in his 30's who feels palpitations should be checked by his primary care doctor (family medicine or internal medicine) to make sure his body is ok from a general check-up point of view, and to listen to his heart. It could be a thyroid hormone problem, or could be that his heart is beating irregularly for another reason, etc...  Additionally, a cardiologist can also evaluate.

have palpitations. echo with stress test and ultrasound all good. looked at blood flow also. have alot of anxiety. on 24 hour holter monitor. how does a radiologist tell the difference between anxiety and arrhythmia on a 24 hour holter monitor?

: Usually "anxiety" will not trigger an arrhythmia on a Holter monitor, and if the ECHO "looked good",  the Holter over a 24 hour period should be reliable to exclude a cardiac arrhythmia.  Suggest follow/up with a cardiologist for better prognostic guidance.

Magnesium taurate: My favorite form of magnesium is magnesium taurate, which is magnesium bound to the amino acid taurine. It is among the best-absorbed forms of magnesium and the taurine in it is beneficial for the heart and often helps arrhythmias (as does magnesium). This is not  easy to find but I like the one from Cardiovascular Research (available online); you can take up to 2 AM &amp; PM, best on empty stomach.

Depends: Someone with a well trained ear can often times spot an arrhythmia with a stethoscope. However, I know of none who would  use that as the only source of information. Any suspicion from the exam would lead to at least a rhythm strip to verify the suspicion &amp; classify the rhythm. Palpitations are a sensation experienced by the individual, not something defined by a stethoscope.

NO: You have to be very careful to buy the pure form from a reputable herbal store.In 1978 Journal of medical association published an article about a couple who made Burdock tea tainted with Belladona alkaloid &amp; experienced the side effects- blurred vision,dryness of mouth &amp; hallucination &amp; ended up in ER.
With your history, stay away from it!

Side effects: You should talk to your doctor about managing your asthma with other medications that have less side effects. There are other options for you.

i was dxd with an arythmia when i was in my early 20s via ekg. i recently wore a holter monitor for resurgence of palpitations, results were normal. they come and go, but it feels very bad. took my pulse and felt it skipping a beat. should i worry?

: If you have A Fib yes other wise discuss with your Dr. who knows you. We do not.---yet.

my heart pounds very hard. it feels like punches to my chest. that's how much it is uncomfortable. since last night. even though my heart rate is in the 80's. are they bad palpitations. arrhythmia. should i be concerned?

Yes: You may not be able to accurately determine your heart rate without a monitor in this situation.  Assuming you don't have one, with your history you need to be seen and have an EKG and rhythm strip done.

i have aivr arrhythmia. recently i have more palpitations and have been sustaining the rhythm for up to 3 minutes. it comes and goes all the time but very frequently per my apple watch ecg. i know its benign but when do i need treatment. what is it?
