A member asked:

Can you tell if you have an arrhythmia or palpitations using a stethoscope?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Depends: Someone with a well trained ear can often times spot an arrhythmia with a stethoscope. However, I know of none who would use that as the only source of information. Any suspicion from the exam would lead to at least a rhythm strip to verify the suspicion & classify the rhythm. Palpitations are a sensation experienced by the individual, not something defined by a stethoscope.
