Ok: This is the maximum fda recommend dose for both, but they can be used together at these doses safety.

Do this under: medical supervision.  You are tapered off the zoloft and simultaneously started on low dose cymbalta (duloxetine). As the zoloft is lowered, the cymbalta (duloxetine) is increased.

Possibly: It could be difficult because stopping Cymbalta (duloxetine) can lead to the withdrawal syndrome that some patients experience.  It is accompanied by severe migraine headaches and electric current sensations over the the top of the head and the neck and just because sertraline is being started does not necessarily prevent it.  Talk to your doctor for more details regarding the transition to zoloft!

SNRI vs SSRI: Cymbalta (duloxetine) increases serotonin and norepinephrine levels, zoloft increases serotonin levels only. Cymbala may help chronic pain as well as depression. Both are good antidepressants and have similar side effect profiles. Keep in mind there is no 1antidepressant that is effective for everyone. It may take several trials to find the right one for you or you may be lucky and respond to the 1st one.

Neither: well one is not generally safer then the other, it all depends on which works for you. it also depends on what you are treating and what other medications you are on.

Don't know why: you would want to do that.  Cymbalta (duloxetine) can help with both anxiety &amp; depression. Zoloft can also treat both anxiety &amp; depression. Combining them could increase risk for serotoninergic syndrome.  See you are also on ativan and risperidal. Please take only as directed by your physician/ psychiatrist.

It doesn't: work specifically better with one vs the other. Adding abilify (aripiprazole) to antidepressant can help for recalcitrant depression.

Response varies: Zoloft and Cymbalta work in different ways. This along with individual response may predict my outcomes are different with Abilify (aripiprazole) in combination with either zoloft or cymbalta.

Loss of appetite: Both medications have as a side effect- loss of appetite. However, with Cymbalta (duloxetine) is an individual response, you  can gain or loose weight. At the same time Cymbalta (duloxetine) is a good antidepressant (snri) and chronic pain relief medication.
