Accepted Answer

No: Steroids do not improve acne. A low dose oral steroid can be helpful in selected people for hormonal acne in women, who can not tolerate or do not want to take birth control pills.

Accepted Answer

No: cortisone has nothing to do with muscle spasms. cortisone is an antiinflammatory and can work being injected directly into a joint or taken orally

are there any medications to reverse skin atrophy from cortisone? also can high cortisol levels in body cause skin thinning?

Accepted Answer

Maybe and Yes : Yes to the second questions. Localized skin atrophy can be a side effect of cortisone type medications when injected locally. Image guidance, choice of steroid formulation & technique can minimize the risk, but does not eliminate it. It may improve with time. In a few of my own patients, i've had excellent results with dermal fillers injected by plastic surgeon or dermatologist.

my wife is 71 years old and a smoker. she is my caregiver ive been suffering with phn for the past 5 years and need constant medication. my daughter has suggested that she gets a nebuliser and palmicort, combivent and cortisone to keep at home ?

Pulmonologist: Chest imaging, pulmonary function testing and a review of your symptoms may be performed by your Pulmonologist. COPD and asthma may be controlled by the medications that you have listed. Review your PH stage and therapeutic options. Your classification of PH may help to guide the next step in your management.

after a mri to the brain with sequences arterial and venous, is it possible to take any medications (as cortisone) without any risks for health?

Yes: MRI is a magnetic resonance machine It has no interference with drugs but steroids should be taken only on doctors advice

i have severe seasonal allergies.take every medication. only thing that really works is prednisone or cortisone shot. possibke to take on a schedule?

Absolutely not: Prednisone is not usually indicated for nasal symptoms.  See an allergist to find out what else can be done.

i have a bad fungus on my foot. i need antibiotics and a very strong cortisone cream. i had this before and these were the only medication that worked. ?

Antibiotic: Fungal foot infections return because the environment is infected. You will never get rid of a fungal foot infection unless you get rid of  all the shoes and footwear that you wore while having a fungal infection and clean the rug, bedding, and floor. Steam and bleach can kill fungal infections. (never drink bleach)

can precum on the outer of the vagina cause pregnancy even if your period has just finished? can cortisone medications delay the period?

Accepted Answer

Pregnancy ?: Any amount of semen near the vagina can contain sperm, and pregnancy is possible. If this occurred just after your period, and before you ovulated this month, the likelihood of pregnancy is low.  Cortisone will not delay or affect the period.  If your period is "late", get a serum HCG test to be certain you are not pregnant.

i was just discharged from hospital and now i have the flu. i received treatment for rheumatoid arthritis. i had 3 day cortisone treatment. is there any medication i can take for it?

Tamiflu: Tamiflu may help to shorten the course. Your immune system will develop antibodies to the viral strain and eliminate the virus. 
I would recommend a yearly flu vaccine unless otherwise contraindicated.

dear dr. i have a painful ear infection for 2 weeks now. i visited 2 chemists. 1st was given aurone and sinus medication including nasal spray . 2nd gave cortisone tablets for fluid in ear, and sinus meds. ear still not cleared up.

Ear Infection: If you truly have an ear infection you most probably need an antibiotic. Please see a physician rather than chemists for a proper diagnosis and correct medication.
