i have been having stomach pain for the past 2 weeks and pencil stools for a few days. my doc said constipation, but i took laxatives already?

Abdominal pain: Two weeks of symptoms calls for an examination by your physician. Simple constipation may cause mild discomfort or cramping, but severe discomfort, especially with abdominal tenderness, distension, or vomiting could reflect incomplete intestinal obstruction in view of pencil thin stools. Get reexamined by your physician, an abdominal surgeon or a gastroenterologist.

Consider going to ER: If you're having severe stomach pain and nausea/vomting, it's probably best you go to the ER to get checked out to make sure you're not having any bowel obstruction.

Narcotics : Cause constipation! period! if you must take oxycontin, be sure to drink 80-100 ounces of caffeine free/alcohol free fluid daily. This may help, but try to get of the narcotic as soon as possible.

Chest pain : chest pain particularly in the lower chest and upper abdomen is likely due to gastritis, hiatal hernia or esophageal reflux disease. Infectious causes like H.pylori can cause gastritis and peptic ulcer disease. If symptoms continue to persist, it might be wise to have your doctor test you for H.pylori (they have breath tests and stool tests for this condition).

Blood in stool: I assume that the fresh blood came from the rectum and not the urinary tract. Probable causes are hemorrhoids or an anal fissure.  Of course, if you demonstrate that the blood is from the urinary tract, problems like infection, stones, growths have to be considered. U may have IBS: Irritable bowel syndrome is a very common diagnosis, more so in female, but happens more and more these days. If you have blood in stool and/or wt loss, please consult doc for eval for possible ulcerative colitis or crohn's disease etc.. Stress tends to worsen ibs symptoms. Stay hydrated: The first rule of constipation is to stay well hydrated. If this doesn't work, try increasing the amount of fiber in the diet (food and supplements) to 20-25gm per day. Make sure to maintain hydration, otherwise the fiber may have the opposite effect. If this is new, ask you primary care if a GI referral for a colonoscopy is appropriate. Hope this helps!

Constipation: If you have an urge for a bowel movement and can't pass stool, work from below by inserting a glycerin rectal suppository or a more effective dulcolax suppository or even a gentle fleets enema. Hot water bottle on abdomen helps gas passage and bloating. If no BM, worsening abdominal cramping and distension,vomiting, go to the hospital emergency room as you may need to be disimpacted

See Dr: Tough to DX you over a computer.  You may have irritable bowll syndrome with constipation (ibs-c), but that is generally a DX of exclusion, ...So get checked out.  Good luck.
