i was in a car accident 6 weeks a go and suffered compression fractures on t11 and t12. is it normal to still be in pain?

Yes: It can take months for that to improve.  Rarely someone could have chronic pain develop from this. Usual treatment for these (thousands in our group): wear a brace for three months with x-rays and then to obtain final upright x-rays at three months out of the brace (often with bending the spine views also) to make sure no abnormal alignment has developed that may need surgery, which is rare.

Compression fracture: Compression fractures take 2 to 3 months to fully heal, and because you have 3 of them, I would expect some degree of discomfort for several more weeks. Notify the physiotherapist if any of the treatments cause significant pain either during or after the therapy.

Be followed : You would certainly want to be followed and treated for this injury.  Treatment would usually involve the use of a brace until healing occurs or, if it becomes particularly debilitating, a kyphoplsty can be a consideration as well.  Once you are feeling better, getting a dexa scan to evaluate your bone density would be appropriate.

Chronic Fracture: Vertebroplasty is a non-invasive procedure in which bone cement is injected into the vertebral body and is commonly done for osteoporotic compression fracture that did not respond to conservative management.  There are many factors that need to be considered and complete imaging of the area completed to determine your specific needs.

Time heals: There was a study on vertebroplasty - apparently it is not a useful procedure.

Medicare will not reimburse for them I am told.

Fracture : No ultrasound to the region of the fracture. Ultrasound is contra-indicated to the region of a fracture. You may see benefits from muscle changes around the fracture. 
TENS can help with pain.

About 3 months: It takes about 3 months to heal, though total healing may take 6 months or more. It is a process. Smoking, some drugs (non steroidal anti-inflammatory medications like ibuprofen, aspirin, naproxen) can slow the process.

Angle of view: Depends on the bones/tissues in the way,  severity of the break (/compression) and the angle of the x-ray beam. If only mildly compressed and a large person, could not be visualized.

Compression fracture: This means you have a fracture of the vertebrae that has decreased the height of the T11 vertebrae by 50%+. The multilevel degenerative disease would suggest arthritis in multiple vertebral levels of the spine.

Let me explain: Six month should be enough time to heal the fracture, check with your doctor if you any other problem due to complications from that fracture.
